Michael Perillo posted Website Translation

I haven't seen any discussions on the topic of translation, so I'd thought I'd ask if anyone attending is using translation memory or services for their websites and/or internal/external material for alternative languages? Secondly, if you are using translation services/memory to help facilitate the process, how are you managing the process of keeping the alternate versions aligned with English?

Rachelle Montano: Years and years ago I used to do a presentation about the importance of having Spanish on your Web site. May have to revive that! But, you're right it's probably time to add a session on the "how to" of it. Thanks Michael!
Samuel: Website translation is becoming increasingly important as people from every nation are putting content on the Internet. It's important to be able to translate content, for both business and casual Internet surfing. Fortunately, language translation s... [read more]
Dave: I don't agree with you, language translation software is great but it won't translate correctly. The text is not readable by a human when using translation tools. If you want to translate a website you have to do it yourself or hire somebody to do it... [read more]

Kathy Divis posted Post Conference Evaluation

It was great to see everyone in Vegas. I hope you found it both educational and fun. Let us know what you thought about the conference and what suggestions you have for next year. We'd particularly like to know what topics you'd like more of, less of, etc., and any speakers you particularly enjoyed. You'll also be getting a formal online evaluation shortly. Thanks for attending and see you next year.

The conference continues to grow, with registrations already exceeding last year's numbers. We need your ideas on how to better connect people when onsite at the conference. This Website helps connect folks electronically, but how do we connect better when on site?

Mike Hensgen: Again, as in Alicia's comment above, the days will be busy and jam packed, but what if a randomly generated list of networking contacts was pushed to each attendee, say 20, and some incentive ( free chip, drink coupon, etc.) given for those contactin... [read more]
Neal Linkon: I like both ideas. What do you think about assigned seating at some of the luncheons? I've seen that done where it forces you to sit with people you may not already know. Some hate that sort of thing, but I always liked the chance to meet new people.
Grant Sanborn: Maybe you cuold organize an informal "TweetUp" for us -- maybe even during one of the evening receptions. I've been to one locally and it was a lot of fun and great for networking. It also provides the opportunity to provide some great Tweets and ReT... [read more]

John and I will be covering the whole concept of outsourcing, why you'd do it, why you wouldn't, examples of what others are outsourcing, and looking at some new models in healthcare. Would love to get any input, thoughts or suggestions to make sure we make this session as useful for you as possible!

Andrew Roberts: Based on Benchmarking data, the most commonly outsourced areas are the Web Nursery and Design Services. We have also seen more and more people adding e-Commerce ability to their hospital Web site, so credit card transactions are being outsourced at a... [read more]
Grant Sanborn: I would never outsource my social media (unless it was to someone who worked inside one of my hospitals previously). I think social media is as much about "personality" as anything so it would be a tough one to hand off. Design, calendar maintenence,... [read more]
Rachelle Montano: Grant, I agree. I think social media needs to have the personality of the organization. It's about building relationships, and the relationship shouldn't be with an outsourced agency. It should be with you.

Does anyone have a best memory from the previous conferences you have attended?

Grant Sanborn: Let's make this my best/worst memory: When I first attended five years ago I remember sulking to my room totally and completely depressed after the firt day because I'd seen hospitals with upwards of 10-20 people on their team pushing forward while I... [read more]

Neal Linkon posted Okay, what's #2?

Everybody I talk to says the most valuable part of the conference is the networking. But what's #2? The sessions, exhibits, or just being in Vegas?

Laura Clemons posted Speakers

If you could meet with one of our speakers... Which one of our speakers would you like to speak with for 15 minutes, face-to-face, and what would you want to discuss?

Mike Hensgen: Looking forward to meeting Mark Bard of Manhattan Research. Enjoyed their company's podcast of "Physicians' Use of Mobile Med Technology" on their website. Want to drill down a bit into what their view is regarding the specific sub-area of patient ed... [read more]
Kathy Divis: I'm looking forward to hearing Dave Feinberg (NYP Hospital) and Grad Conn (Microsoft) speak on NYP's use of HealthVaut.
Andrew Roberts: I am really looking forward to Mark Allen's presentation on the Politics of Healthcare. So many people in the industry are at a loss trying to guess what will happen next with healthcare reform, and I am hoping that he will help us all prepare for wh... [read more]

Andrew Roberts posted Casino recommendation

Any suggestions for a Vegas casino that will not be overly intimidating for a rookie blackjack player? I know that they are ultimately all equally likely to take my money, but I am searching for a place that will be friendly to beginners.

Kathy Divis: My folks are big believers in going off the strip to gamble and to the "old" downtown area ... I had some good luck the last time I was in town at the casino at the Westin, right off the strip.

Mike Schneider posted Weather Forecast

Inside the hotel at the conference I am sure it will be a comfortable 70 and dry, but FYI it looks like a great weather week in Vegas. As of now, highs near 80, lows in mid 50s and sunny. Pack your spring clothes, the conference is only a few days away!

Mike Schneider posted Vegas on a budget

I can't be the only guy going to this conference who doesn't like paying $8 for a bottle of water at the hotel. And given the scrutiny of hospital budget dollars I'll bet there are a lot of great ideas out there about ways to have fun, but save cash while in Vegas. As for me, I am going to take a side trip to the convenience store and pick up some bottled water and snacks. Any other ideas on ways I can save a few dollars? Where are the cheap blac... Mike Hensgen: Hey Mike, Don't have any budget guidance, except don't gamble or win big...lol! However your "side trip" reference reminded me, if you have an extra day and are in OK shape consider driving out to Red Rock Canyon National Park. Beautiful trails and v... [read more]

Farrah Hunt posted Vegas Restaurants

This will be my first visit to Vegas. Can anyone recommend a good restaurant?

Kathy Divis: You can't go wrong with food in Vegas. Tons of restuarants and price points. At Caesars, there are a couple really good restaurants: Rao's (italian out of NYC) and Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay's LV restuarant). Two of my favorites. I also like Joe's Stone ... [read more]

Laura Clemons posted Vegas Shows

Does anyone have any recommendations on any good shows to see while in Vegas? I have been to Vegas a few times but have never seen a show!

Kathy Divis: My favorites are the Cirque de Solei (spelling?) shows. Especially liked O. I saw the Fab Four a couple of years ago --- good. Not a huge fan of Penn & Teller. The Phantom of the Opera at Venetian is good ... saw Barry Manilow one year there and hate... [read more]
Jennifer Pense: Beatles LOVE show is incredible! It's really spectacular. I've seen it 4 times ... highly recommend it.

Farrah Hunt posted SEM and SEO

Wow, I can't believe that it is almost time to go to Vegas! This will be my second year attending the Annual Healthcare Internet Conference. I'm hoping there will be SEM and SEO case studies presented this year. Who is interested in walking away with new information on SEM and SEO? I recently read an article about online campaigns for Bing vs. Google. The results reported in the article found that although Bing's percentage of visitors has starte... [read more]

Laura Clemons posted Blogging

I recently watched a brief video regarding blogs and the value they bring to users. The video indicates that if you follow blogs, you can get several perspectives and therefore collectively, have a better understanding of the subject matter as a whole. The assembly of bloggers, however, only brings value when those in the group have independent ideas and convey a unique perspective to the group. Otherwise, the group consists of like-minded people... [read more]

I'm having a hard time believing it is already late October and we have less than two weeks to the kick off of the 13th Annual Healthcare Internet Conference. A lot to do between now and then. We have been pleasantly surprised that our registration numbers have exceeded last year's and we will have a nearly full exhibit hall. If you haven't already, feel free to use the "my schedule" tool that is available when you click on "schedule" above to ge... [read more]

Michael Barber posted Social Media... seems to be popular

It looks like (at least from the little widget tracking our interests) that social media is on the top of everyone's radar. So the question begs to be asked... what for? What is the interest that grabs you? What are you using (or planning to use) it for (ie. class/event promotion, recruitment, community awareness, etc.)? What is your flavor or choice (ie. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)? And best of all, are you getting anything tangible in ret... [read more]

Drew Diskin, MS: I receive tons of questions regarding HR/legal guidelines, governance, training and templates... So, I'm also interested in learning about the employee/operational side of things. Looking forward to the conference.
Michael Barber: Great article this morning from eMarketer regarding Social Media Best Practices (http://www.emarketer.com/Article.aspx?R=1007200)
Neal Linkon: So many hospitals are using various social media tools, it's clear any legal or compliance issues can be overcome. And many are getting very tangible results, including direct referrals. It can be done, and if after the conference you didn't get all ... [read more]

Brad Bishop posted Let's get it started!

Hey everyone! How are ya? Okay, we need to get a good conversation going on here...Let's see...First off, I've never been to Vegas so I'm definitely pretty pumped about this. Although I've never met any of you guys (although I'm sure I will), I may have to ask you to keep me accountable at the gambling tables :) I hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to meeting you.

Andy Gradel: My favorite place is still O'Sheas. Good little casino on the strip where the Guinness is right around $2. Perfect for cash-strapped webmasters... hah...
Pam Parten: It's great fun! You will LOVE it!
Neal Linkon: Leave it to Andy to highlight a place for drinks. :'). Although he happens to be right. The conference ain't half bad, too! Looking forward to seeing you and everybody else. Looks like we'll have a crowd about the size of last year, which is great!

Alicia Gregory posted Rob Curley?

Does anyone know if Rob Curley is speaking this year? I have really enjoyed his presentations in the past and I don't see him on this year's schedule. Also, anyone from Microsoft or Google coming? Thanks!

Kathy Divis: Sorry, but Rob is not speaking this year ... he has spoken for the last 3-4 years, and will likely return next year. There is a speaker from Microsoft in a general session ... not sure if I remember seeing anyone from Google.
Alicia Gregory: Thanks, Kathy. Tom and I are looking forward to the conference (as always). See you then!
Kathy Divis: Looking forward to seeing you too. Registrations are strong so it should be a good time. See you soon.
